  1. Occupation 
  2. Fish (they eat the mercury that is spilled in water)
  3. Some personal care products
  4. Old broken mercury thermometers


Health Risks 

  1. Toxin that crosses the placenta
  2. Affects fetal brain development
  3. Seen to lead to lower IQ in children
  4. Poor language and motor development


Recommendations

  1. Eat fish 1-2 times weekly, 6oz per serving
  2. AVOID fish HIGH in mercury (tuna, shark, swordfish, marlin, king mackerel, tilefish)
  3. Limit sushi to once or less per month
  4. Recommend fish and seafood LOW in mercury (shrimp, salmon, pollock, catfish, flounder, trout)
  5. Check local advisories on water quality
